Distributed Narratives – Multiple Views on the Data

A total of thirteen different folded maps were created, each representing a specific view on the text of the accompanying final study thesis.
The “stylist” variation of the different maps as it appears when unfolded. The stylist view is concerned with the ways in which something is said, done, expressed or performed.
Each variation shows a different network of hierarchical relations to all relevant parts in the source text for each specific view (in this case that of the “stylist”).
At the back of each map the full text is printed in miniature typography. A visual distincion between blue and black typography represents cited authors or external references in the text.
The front of each map shows the hierarchical structure of the text, and shows links to specific paragraphs that are relevant for each specific view.

A total of thirteen different folded maps were created, eight of which are shown. The back of each map in its folded state shows a short description and relates to other views and professions.

Description: This maps are a supplement to the related thesis Distributed Narratives: Extracting Design Methods from Nonlinear Narrative Formations. Based on the research of that thesis, these maps present thirteen different views to look at the contents of that research, but also to inspire specific collaborations between different views. In short, these maps thus become a series of blueprints that cover some of the facets of design, engineering, coordinating, and managing distributed narratives.
The following views were developed: “collector”, “data architect”, “data miner”, “decoder”, “device junkie”, “encoder”, “information architect”, “network administrator”, “process coordinator”, “random participant”, “stylist”, “system architect”, and “system informer” (a description for each view is provided on each particular map).
