Description: As a hyperstructure, the website presents its contents as a network of conceptual patterns that highlight connections with and differences between other works. It complements the traditional and rather limiting format of the curriculum vitæ by highlighting (the emergence of) conceptual patterns and lines of development through the work featured on the website. These conceptual patterns are represented in the form of a citation graph that covers the contents on this domain. Specitically, the number of internal inlinks (i.e. indegree, or the unique link count from other sources to that source within a delineated set of sources) displayed under each thumbnail can be read as an indicator of the conceptual value of that project in relation to other projects and papers on the website.
In addition, the website re-presents temporalities and trajectories in a spatial manner, that is simultaneously as a reverse-chronological stream (of papers and projects, but also of activity) and as an archive. Hopefully, the empty “placeholder space” on the “Overview” and “News” pages will immediately evoke the question of why it is there. This would in turn point to the main conceptual structure of the website, which is the inherent contradictory tensions between its form as an archive of previous works on the one hand (attempting to fixate or “stabilise” temporalities into spatial and conceptual patterns), and its form as a stream of current activities on the other hand (letting these same temporalities run their course, allowing new conceptual patterns to emerge within a confined space).
By means of highlighting such temporalities, the website puts emphasis on the emergence of concepts and ideas through their various expressive forms such as projects and papers. Rather than presenting a single and final form of a concept, it puts emphasis on the processes underpinning its development through its various expressions in different contexts. As David Berry argues in The Philosophy of Software: Code and Mediation in the Digital Age (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011), the “shift from chronological time to spatial representation means that things can be replayed and even reversed, which is the discretisation of the continuous flow of time” (153). For this reason, projects and papers will gradually fade deeper into the archive by becoming increasingly transparent and less clearly visible (according to a decreasing visibility function) unless hovered over, thereby acknowledging their historicity (i.e. their specificities as artefacts situated in time and space). Furthermore, detailed information is presented (based on the Dublin Core metadata schema) for each project or paper that may help in such “reconstructions”.
